Fifty years ago, in March 1971 the European Union of Science Journalists’ Associations

(EUSJA) was created at the Maison de Presse in Brussels with participation of the founding fathers

representing science journalists’ associations from Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, the

Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Since then, EUSJA has played an important role for developing science journalism in Europe through visits,

conferences and debates organized by journalists from up to 23 countries. EUSJA made it possible for

journalists to meet and exchange knowledge during the cold war. After The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, EUSJA

played an important role in ́making the west more accessible for journalist from the former Eastern

European countries. Later, EUSJA played a pivotal role for the creation of the World Federation for Science

Journalists (WFSJ) facilitating and networking science and science journalism at a global level.

To celebrate its years existence, EUSJA is organizing the European Conference for Science Journalists (ECSJ2021) the 16 December from 10.00 – 14.00 with the Patronage of the European Union
