    What One World Media, the Pulitzer Center and the Financial Times have partnered to offer the Global Health Film Grant.

    Who An experienced filmmaker who wants to explore, through a short documentary, underreported stories about health in the Global South.

    About
    Interested applicants must submit creative, newsworthy proposals that spotlight underreported global health stories across a range of topics — from health inequalities and barriers to basic healthcare, to food insecurity and its far-reaching consequences.

    The selected film will receive up to GBP20,000 (US$27,353). The film needs to be under 25 minutes and completed by June 2026.

  • EGU’s Science Journalism Fellowship 2025

    What Successful applicants receive up to €5000 to cover expenses related to their projects

    Who Professional journalists interested in reporting on ongoing research in the Earth, planetary or space sciences

    About
    EGU Science Journalism Fellowships differ from other science journalism prizes. Rather than awarding a published piece of science reporting, the EGU funds innovative proposals to report on geoscientific research not yet in the public sphere. The award offers journalists the opportunity to follow geoscientists on location to develop an in-depth understanding of their research questions, approaches, findings and motivation. The aim of the fellowship is to promote excellence in geoscience reporting.

    The winning journalist(s) should publish at least one substantial item reporting on their project(s). Products could include text (such as a feature article in print or electronic media, or a book), radio stories, video/multimedia or photo features, and may be published in any European language.

  • The Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism

    What The €20,000 annual prize will be awarded on October 2025 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The winning submission will be selected by an independent jury.

    Who It is open to professional journalists and teams of professional journalists of any nationality, who can submit in-depth pieces that have been published or broadcast by media based in one of the 27 EU countries.

    The Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism was endorsed by the European Parliament in October 2020.

    The Prize rewards on a yearly basis outstanding journalism that promotes or defends the core principles and values of the European Union such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law, and human rights.

    The award ceremony takes place every year around 16 October, as a symbolic reminder of the date when Daphne Caruana Galizia was assassinated.

  • ONA offers conference fellowships [Worldwide]

    What The fellowships provide registration for the 2025 Online News Association Conference and Awards Sept. 10 to 13 in New Orleans. The MJ Bear fellows also receive three online coaching sessions and ONA membership as well as additional opportunities to showcase their work.

    Who Journalists under the age of 30 from anywhere in the world. Applicants must be working journalists; students are not eligible. Candidates must also be fluent in English and born between June 30, 1995 and June 30, 2002.

    The ONA25 focus areas are AI, climate, and resilience. They welcome projects on any topic, but if you are working on these themes, this might be a particularly good year for you to apply. The scholarship covers round-trip travel to ONA25, lodging at the Hyatt New Orleans for up to five nights, and a meal stipend during your travel.

  • Maria Leptin|EMBO Science Journalism Fellowships

    Maria Leptin|EMBO Science Journalism Fellowships support science journalists and life scientists entering careers as science journalists covering life science research. The fellowships were made possible by a private donation from Maria Leptin.

    Requirements: 

    • A maximum two-page proposal in English in which they explain and justify how they intend to use the fellowship for their career development as a science journalist.
    • Their curriculum vitae in English
    • Journalistic, published samples of work, which may be in any language
    • Individual applicants may be invited by EMBO for a Zoom interview.

    Hours/duration:

    Fellows receive stipends for a duration of three to twelve months to fund their stays in media outlets of any type, editorials offices or research institutions that make the fellows advance in their careers as science journalists. 

    Salary: €68-€140 per day, depending on country.

    Applications received by 1 February, 1 June or 1 October will be considered.
